18-Wheeler Accident Kills 2, Injures 20 Others

Semi truck accidentsTwo people were killed and several others sustained serious injuries in a highway accident involving an 18-wheeler truck, a car, and a school bus carrying a boy’s track team on the evening of December 23. The school bus was returning to Mount Pleasant from a track meet in Paris, Texas.

According to officials, a student and three coaches are still recovering in a nearby hospital. Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is still investigating the exact cause of the accident, which an eyewitness claims was caused by an erratic driver.

An 18-wheeler truck was in the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 271, when it crossed the centerline, speeding into oncoming traffic. The driver of the bus carrying the boy’s track team managed to swerve out of the semi truck’s way, which slammed head-on into a car behind the bus.

Both the driver of the big rig and the car died at the scene of the accident. The driver of the car was identified as Angelica Beard, an assistant coach for the girls’ track team, who were in another bus trailing the boys’ bus.
